Rikki Shantz

I am a mom and a wife.  My daughters are my “why”.  They give me the drive to better myself everyday.  I want, more than anything, to raise strong and confident women and I believe the best way to do that is to lead by example.

My love for athletics started at a very young age.  The court, the gym, the field, and the weight room is always where I have felt the most at home.  Those places are where I gained confidence, the team work mentality, and the ambition to work hard.   I was a four sport athlete in high school.  I played basketball, softball, and track- but volleyball was my favorite.  I went on to play college volleyball for four years.  After I was done playing in college I continued playing in leagues and club tournaments.  I still play in the USAV National Tournament every year.  I also love coaching the sport.  I have coached various levels over the last 15 years.  I have also been the head volleyball coach at Green River High School since 2008.

After college I had a desire to continue working out but struggled to find something that had the same intensity that I was used to. I missed team sports and the environment that they created.  I trained for a half marathon, I did home workout videos, and I tried lifting on my own at the Rec Center.  Once I ran the half marathon or completed the 60 day program, I had no desire to continue.  I stumbled into a CrossFit box in April of 2013, having no idea what I was getting in to.  I figured it was just my next three month adventure.  I was hooked within the first week.  The goal oriented environment and the community was just what I was missing.  There is something special that happens when you get like minded people who truly care about one another together.  It brings out the best in people.

In March of 2015 I decided to get my CrossFit L1 certification.  I had no plans of coaching, I simply wanted to know more about CrossFit and better myself. In June of 2015 I had the opportunity to begin coaching classes.  Coaching has been one of my favorite experiences.  I get to coach the most inspiring people.  I get to see people do things they never thought they could do.  I love learning and growing as a coach, and I love the people that I have met along the way.
